Caran d'Ache

Founded in 1915 in Geneva as Maison Caran d’Ache, Caran d’Ache was renamed in 1924 as a tribute to the famous French illustrator, Emmanuel Poiré.  Caran d’Ache first specialized in graphite and colored pencils and eventually diversified to include wax oil pastels, mechanical pencils, and the first ballpoint pens.  With its invention of Prismalo, the world’s first watersoluble colored pencil, Caran d'Ache revolutionized the world of design and color. A goal of helping scholars discover their artistic senses and talents also led the company to develop a new formula for wax oil professional crayons, Neocolor I, followed by the watersoluble version, Neocolor II.  Today, technical excellence as well as impeccable quality stemming from the Swiss tradition of fine craftsmanship continue to give rise to some of the world’s most sophisticated writing instruments and the most luminous colors.
